Our Food Matters

Our Food Matters is more than a statement. It is our philosophy that food, when approached thoughtfully, can be a catalyst for change. In 2020, we started on the Our Food Matters journey with a newfound appreciation of just how precious food is to our communities and climate.

Food can be regenerative to our world by restoring and drawing down the carbon from greenhouse gases into the soil. This practice creates a more prosperous, biodiverse, living soil that will deliver better flavored and nutrient-dense foods for our patients and guests to enjoy.

We have built relationships with other organizations on the front line of change in the food system and continue to partner with organizations that provide us the knowledge and tools to make a difference for our clients, our people and our planet.

For us, fighting climate change is as easy as making healthy, delicious food for our patients and guests. We are rebuilding recipes from the ground up with the most regenerative ingredients that are also readily available to our chefs. With these recipes, we can utilize our scale to both expand our biodiversity and drive restorative change within the system.

Our Scorecard

Items that meet the specific criteria of Compass Group’s sustainability initiatives, as a percent of total purchases for that category. Calculations are based on items where the source has been identified as sustainable or unsustainable. Items that aren’t traceable aren’t reported.

Waste Not

We have committed to reducing our food waste 50% by 2030. Waste Not combats food waste every day in our cafes as we strive to meet this commitment at the source.  This web-based measurement tool categorizes daily waste before disposal and allows accounts to post results and track progress to help minimize the cost and environmental impact of food waste.

Doing the right thing is embedded in our company culture. It empowers us to advocate for change, push for transparency and continually seek ways to be more socially and environmentally responsible. We collaborate with our clients and give our operators ownership to embrace tools, programs and partnerships that provide sustainable solutions.
